A Message from

the Reverend Dr. Andrew Human

Dear Congregation,

We find written in Isaiah 41:10  “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

As Christians, we serve a God Who can do all things and because of that there should be no fear. I come to you today NOT out of fear but in the spirit of caution, care and prudence. Covid-19 is with us and we have been asked to engage in social-distancing. For some that means no touching; for others it means staying a recommended distance of 2 metres apart from your neighbour; and for others it might mean staying away from a gathering all together. I know full well that most of you would come to church tomorrow simply because it is open. We love the fellowship and look forward to coffee-time. I think some of us would feel extremely guilty that we did not go to church because we feel it is what we are supposed to do, regardless of the circumstances.

Our Kirk Session has been monitoring the situation and we have unanimously decided, out of an extreme abundance of caution, to pause our Sunday Morning Worship Services effective immediately until April 5…our Palm Sunday Service. History has taught us that being proactive is abundantly easier than being reactive. We are not showing fear, we are showing our community an example of love for each other. I would rather hear “we over-reacted, we panicked” than doing a funeral hearing “we should have acted, we acquiesced.”

I will put Sunday March 15th sermon on our public website and there will also be an opportunity for you to give electronically. As I will be on vacation Sunday March 22, the next sermon on the web will be March 29th. I know our first reaction to this might be “But we have never done that before…” Look at it this way…You can now listen to the sermon in your pajamas; in your easy chair; with a beverage in your hand; on your phone, tablet, or computer; try something completely novel by giving your offering to God online (now you have the time); think ever more about going on PAR giving;…all things that wouldn’t happen if we had church (I know it is not the same…).
