I've Learned to Embrace Vulnerability During My Cancer Treatment
by Sarah Morrison
Mississauga, Ontario
The Globe and Mail, Published January 8, 2024
We can do hard things. I’ve always heard this line, but never been fully aware of what it meant to me or how it might show up in my life. In my career in leadership, I’ve been trained in positive psychology and relational intelligence, I hold a PhD, and I’m a professional coach. Through this training, I’ve learned the power of gratitude and I’ve realized that everything is perspective and that everyone has a story. The approach to much of this training is to learn, live and embed the process. Little did I know that it would come in most handy when I least expected it – when, this past summer, I was diagnosed with cancer. . . READ MORE >
A Prayer for Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
God of truth, mercy and peace,
God of life and of reconciliation,
we mourn the suffering and murder of your people
and we pray a just peace
and reconciliation for the people of Palestine and Israel
who have endured the burden of violence and conflict for so long.
Console those who grieve,
heal the injured,
comfort those who are alone and afraid,
protect those who held hostage, and
restrain those who would cause more violence
or act cynically for political gain and power.
Let wisdom settle on your churches
and on the governments and leaders of this world
so that justice is sought,
reconciliation found,
peace established and
security provided for all.
In the name of Jesus we pray.
Amen.

On October 7, the province of Herat in western Afghanistan was struck by a 6.3 magnitude earthquake. A series of aftershocks followed. To date, the United Nations estimates that over 12,000 people have been affected. Both the number of affected households and casualties are expected to rise as assessments continue.

In the Kushkak village in Afghanistan, 42-year-old Guljan lived a simple life with her husband and four children until one day in October 2023, when an earthquake struck their village. Guljan lost her husband and 11-year-old son. After the disaster, she encountered significant challenges in getting assistance due to the gender disparities present in her village. However, PWS&D’s partner recognized her needs and provided Guljan’s family with a winterized tent to help endure the harsh weather conditions. PWS&D provided food assistance, as well as other support after the earthquake to help people survive the winter challenges.

WAR IN UKRAINE ENTERS THIRD YEAR: Church Leaders of Canada Call for Peace
INTRODUCTION
This invitation to prayer and action for peace has grown out of a shared journey begun a year ago by Ukrainian Orthodox, Catholic, Evangelical, and other Christian leaders together with the World Evangelical Alliance's Peace & Reconciliation Network, The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada, and The Canadian Council of Churches.
Our gatherings have explored the spiritual and historical backdrop of the conflict in Ukraine, the ongoing realities faced by Ukrainians who have been welcomed to Canada, and the prospects for peace in Ukraine.
Together we call all Christians and people of good will to join in united prayer and action for peace.
